21. Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22. Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.Matthew 18:21-22. The rabbis taught three times was the maximum number to forgive trespasses. Peter wants to look extremely loving by forgiving up to seven times. Jesus puts away limits on forgiveness. Peter thinks seven times is a lot. Jesus says seventy times seven, four hundred and ninety times, if your brother slapped you in the face and asked forgiveness, we must forgive. For Christ has forgiving every sin of ours, and if we forgive not, then where can we find forgiveness. This is the meaning of the parable of the wicked servant. Having been forgiving a great debt by his lord, he cast his fellow servant in prison for a petty sum of money. We are being forgiven all sin which has a sentence of eternal punishment and in its place we receive life everlasting. We are obligated to forgive all who sin against us. Some will need the help of God in heaven for this task. My son was murdered in 2019 while sleeping under a bridge in Baton Rouge. Jobs sons and daughters were murdered on the same day. Jesus is all-knowing and would not ask us to do something impossible. Amen.
