18. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.19. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?20. And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to younder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Matthew 17:18-20. The disciples could not cast out the demon from the boy, yet Christ had no difficulty. The disciples want to know why they failed. Jesus tells them because they did not trust God, who has complete authority over every demon. Jesus talks about faith as small as a mustard seed. It is not how much faith we have but what kind, small, or great faith needs to be placed in Almighty God to be effective. When faith is rooted in God, you can speak to the problem, be removed, and it will go. Some things take greater effort, like fasting and prayer. And if we do not succeed, we must look inward, asking God to reveal if there is some evil in us that is the cause of unfaithful labor. Amen.
