Yesterday, as the winter storm loomed, we made a heartfelt decision to extend a lifeline to 24 families and 17 animals who survived the hurricane but lost their homes. Today was supposed to be their last day at the hotel, with FEMA vouchers expiring, but we stepped in and paid for one more week of shelter. 🌨️🏨
As a local organization deeply rooted in this community, we live in sync with its heartbeat. We knew this was the worst possible time for families to face eviction, especially with a storm on the horizon. When we visited the hotel to share the news, the relief and gratitude were palpable. Many told us how thankful they are to everyone who made this extension possible.
But their gratitude was bittersweet. With no plans for what comes next, they face an uncertain future. The most critical part of this story is making sure more people know: families are being evicted in the middle of a winter storm.
Together, we can raise awareness and find solutions. Let’s hold each other close and show that no one is alone in this storm. 🌬️❤️
