32. As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.33. And whenthe devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. 34. But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils. Matthew 9:32-34 In the Jewish understanding of demon possession, this man could not be helped. The rabbis thought the first step in casting out a demon was to get the name of the demon. Being mute, the man could not reveal the demon's name. For this reason, Christ's miracle was amazing to the multitude. Also showing the weakness of religious traditions. In the previous verses, the scribes called Jesus a blasphemer, and now the Pharisees continue, saying Jesus casts out demons by Satan's power. This continues the rejection of Christ as Messiah, Redeemer, King, Priest, and Son of God. Christ suffered physically and emotionally on our behalf, more than any man that ever walked this earth. There is no salvation without Christ. Amen.
