1. And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
2. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
Revelation 18:1-2
John sees the destruction of Babylon, it having two manifestations. Spiritual symbol, of a harlot, unfaithful, mother, guilty of religious abominations. Destroyed by a political power that previously supported her. Commercial symbol, a great city, a port city, large population, and marketplace, guilty of greed and self-indulgence, destroyed by and act of God.
Judgment has come to Babylon, giving double what she gave to the saints, commercial Babylon, who made profits selling bodies and souls of mankind, have stacked up sins that have reached up to heaven. God has remembered all her iniquities. Unlike believers, God said I will remember their sins no more. The believers are called to come out of her.
The inhabitants of land and sea mourn the destruction of Babylon.
The end is sure John sees an angel coming from heaven with a very large millstone, and he casts it into the sea. Thus shall Babylon be thrown down never to rise again. Amen.
