7. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
8. And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of the saints.
9. And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
Revelation 5:7-9
John sees the Almighty sitting on His throne, holding a scroll sealed with seven seals. John weeps because no one in heaven or earth is found worthy to remove the seals to read the scroll.
One of the elders tells John the Lion of the tribe of Judah can open the seals.
John expected to see a lion. Instead, he saw a lamb that still bare the marks of His sacrifice.
The picture is, though, slain. He is alive. Much time has passed since Jesus went to the Cross, but this event will never get stale. Salvation never gets old.
The song of the elders and living spirits explains what makes Jesus worthy. Because He was slain and His blood redeemed people from every place on earth of those who believe.
The saints' prayers are full of honor. The price of redemption, for you were slain. The work of redemption, having redeemed us. The destination of redemption, having redeemed us to God. The payment of redemption, by Your blood. The scope of redemption, to everyone everywhere who believes. Amen.
