15. I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.16. So thenbecause thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth.17. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:Revelation 3:15-17 Jesus is talking to the church of Laodicean. The city is wealthy, exporting textile, and famous for their healing eye salve. Their water supply came from a six mile aqueduct, and the water was lukewarm. Christ is saying that lukewarm water is a picture of indifference and compromise. Not totally submitted to Christ, just enough to feel like you're saved, but no regeneration, no change in daily life. If you were cold, you might begin to see your hopelessness. The rich rarely need to rely on God, seeing they can purchase what they need. Jesus is saying that they are unaware of their spiritual condition. They are wretched and miserable. Spiritual poor, spiritual blind, and without a covering for sin. Jesus illuminated the contrast between what they think and what they are. Between what they see and what Jesus sees. Between their wealth and their spiritual bankruptcy. Jesus is saying, follow Me, you will be rich in God. You shall receive healing for your spiritual blindness. And you will be clothed in My righteousness, covering all your sin. And we can this day receive the same from Jesus. Amen.
