1. Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2. The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
3. Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision.
Psalm 2:1-4
The psalmist is amazed by the rulers and men in power, that they have no real knowledge of God, or His nature, power, or His infinite understanding of all created things.
They have rebelled against His authority, and set as gods things from their own imagination. Having no creative skills, to do harm or good. They worship an idol that leads only to their destruction.
They not only oppose the Almighty, but Christ, His Anointed.
Saying that God has put them into bondage by His commandments. The yoke of Christ to a saved sinner is not a burden at all, seeing it has freed the sinner from the oppression of Satan. It is Christ who has broken the chains, which bind us to sin.
When it says He who sits in heaven shall laugh, it means the Creator hearing men He created dictating their opposition to Him. He knows where that road leads, and men choose it, over salvation.
Christ is the same, changing not. He is Savior to a repentant sinner, and a Judge to the ungodly. God will never be defeated by what He created. Only the foolish would entertain such a thought. Amen.
