7. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
James 4:7-10
So much in a few words. This word submit in Greek means obey, yield to God's control. This is impossible if Christ is not Lord, King, Redeemer.
Resist means more than withstanding Satan, but to set up a war and battle against him. Then will he flee from you, for your strength is in Christ.
Get close to Christ, and He will surely be by your side. It is by leaving the old nature behind and putting on Christ's new nature that we are purified from all our sins.
Ecclesiastes 7:2, talks of the house of mourning being better than the house of feasting. For death is the end of all, and the living will remember this in their heart, that Christ is Lord over all.
This word humble is translated, to confess and deplore one's spiritual condition as small and unworthy. This confession before Christ as sinners, reveals Christ as Savior, who will lift us up, to Himself, seeing He paid our debt in full on the cross. And now we are given the unmerited favor of God. Amen.
