1. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.2. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.3. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. 4. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.Psalm 51:1-4 This Psalm helps us understand the great and everlasting mercy of God. From Adam and Eve to this very day, the Prophet Jeremiah words are true. We are not consumed in our transgressions against a holy God. Because His mercy is new every morning. Lamentations 3:22-23. The psalmist asked for mercy because his sins were many. Yet Christ has an unending supply of mercy. Mercy is not getting what we deserve. Grace is getting what we do not deserve, the unmerited favor of God. Christ is giving all who come to Him both without measure. When we own up to our sins and ask forgiveness, Christ blots out our sin, meaning it is wiped away, no longer to be brought against us. Sin is a stain we are unable to remove, and if not removed, we will be held accountable. Christ's blood has removed the stain and punishment. All sin is against God. It is rebellion against His standards. It may affect others, but it will be God who judges. Christ came and finished His assignment to perfection. And all who believe Him have peace and safety in Almighty God. Amen.
