18. That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
19. Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
20. Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Hebrews 6:18-20
Two unchanging things, God's oath and His promise. Doubt in God's word or promises is, in fact, saying He is a liar. Which is impossible for that would make Christ a sinner, and then how could He take on our sin. Christ is the perfect sinless sacrifice for sin.
Consolation is comfort and encouragement. And Christ's salvation gives us strong consolation. It does not depend on bodily health, or Christian fellowship, or public service, and can not be shaken by human reasoning.
All who are guilty may come to Christ. He is our eternal hope.
Christ is the anchor for our soul. The anchor keeps a ship from drifting or losing the progress it has made.
We are anchored not to this world but to heaven with Christ. We are not anchored to stand still, but to keep moving forward, not slipping backward.
Christ being our high priest, gives assurance of the promise, seeing He has the authority to go behind the veil. Jesus is the forerunner, having gone before us. We follow after Him. Because He has shown us the way, taking possession of the promise made in our name. Amen.
