6. Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering thou hast not required.
7. Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written on me,
8. I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
9. I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest.
Psalm 40:6-9
The psalmist understood that God wanted obedient surrendered willing servants, not animal sacrifice. A sacrifice is an offering made with blood. Offerings are made without blood. Burnt offering is a total consecration. Sin offering is to atone for sin. Each of these is a picture of Christ.
The psalmist speaks prophetically of Christ, I come as is written in the book. The whole Bible is about Christ.
Christ came to do the will of God, the law contained in His heart.
Christ preached in the open. Nothing was hidden from the people of God. The Almighty is witness to Christ's words and actions.
Proclaiming salvation to sinful Israel first. In truth and love. But most refused.
This song was written by the Psalmist 1015 before Christ was born. The psalmist was inspired by the Spirit of God. This same Jesus gave His life for all of the soul in Gentile nations, having the same power to save them as the nation of Israel. Amen.
