God Is Calling You & Me
1 Kings 19:10 (NIV®)
“I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”
Elijah was a prophet in the northern kingdom of Israel during a very difficult time. Remember, Judah was the southern kingdom at that time. The king, Ahab, was perhaps the most wicked king Israel would ever have. Ahab’s wife, Jezebel, was a witch—and I don’t mean that as a comment on her personality. She was an evil woman who worshipped pagan gods. Together, this pair was doing everything in their power to thwart the purposes of God. But what was Elijah’s calling? To stand as a prophet and deliver God’s perspective in the face of this depravity. Elijah has a significant place in Scripture because of his willingness to stand against the darkness that surrounded him—not passively and quietly, but boldly, and against the most powerful people in his culture.
THINK ABOUT IT
God is still calling people to stand for Him in the face of ungodliness. In fact, He’s calling you and me.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, grant me discernment to recognize Your assignments and boldness to speak Your truth. Help me to stand for You, regardless of the opposition. Renew my strength and bolster my courage so I might run the race You have marked for me with perseverance and endurance. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Blessings,
