1. Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?2. He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. 3. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour. 4. In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.5. He that putteth not out his money to usary, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved. Psalm 15:1-5 The question is put to us. Who can come into God's presence? The word abide meaning a visit. In the ancient east, a visitor would be protected and supplied with everything needed. So, guests of Jehovah are protected from every foe and supplied with everything needed, and every blessing. The word dwell is more permanent, meaning becoming a citizen of the holy hill. The psalmist gives prerequisites of who will be allowed. But all have fallen short. This is why Christ came. He lived as one of us but without sin. And died in our place paying the debt owed in His blood. We must be covered in Christ's righteousness, for we have none of our own. Now, some may say the debt is paid, and I can do as I please. But faith in Christ's work leads us to obedience, not that we can earn our way. But the love for Christ will keep us alert to walk in His ways. The person who lives like this will reside as a citizen of the holy hill and a child of the Almighty for ever. Amen.
