Returning to Yourself Amid Life’s Turmoil...
Thích Nhất Hạnh reminds us of a crucial practice: to live in a way that we never lose ourselves. In our fast-paced lives, it’s easy to be swept away by worries, fears, and cravings. But when we do, we stray from our true self, caught in a cycle of reacting to external pressures. The challenge, and the practice, is to keep returning to our center.
Think about a time when you felt overwhelmed by stress at work. In those moments, it’s easy to lose touch with your calm inner self, reacting in ways that may not align with who you truly are. Taking even a few mindful breaths or a brief pause can bring you back to yourself, helping you respond with clarity instead of reacting from stress.
Or consider how anger can sometimes carry us away, pulling us into arguments or actions we later regret. When we pause, acknowledge our feelings, and return to our inner grounding, we can address situations from a place of peace instead of impulse.
Living in this way doesn’t mean avoiding emotions, but rather allowing ourselves to feel them without letting them control us. By continuously coming back to ourselves, we cultivate a life of authenticity, resilience, and inner peace. 🙂
