The Dark Night of the Soul -
The dark night of the soul is a spiritual experience is a period of misery that precedes a spiritual awakening.
Some call it ego death. I don’t see it this way because I consider the ego our shadow self and it can never die, but we can understand and embrace it, and integrate it with our higher mind, which creates balance, and we do at a later time during the awakening process.
It's a painful but important step in personal growth that can lead to a more mature, open, and peaceful state (Such as a spiritual awakening). It's a time when you question your existence, your beliefs, and the meaning of life, and you may feel a sense of emptiness, worthlessness or being disconnected.
Some symptoms of the dark night of the soul may include:
Deepened emotions -
Extreme sadness -
Uncontrollable crying -
Loss of motivation -
Loss of appetite or binge eating -
Insomnia or sleeping too much -
Withdrawal from social relationships -
Irritability and mood swings -
Nightmares -
Body aches, headaches, or digestion problems -
This is different from depression because people experiencing the dark night of the soul generally keep a sense of hope and aren't troubled by self-destructive thoughts.
