From Haywood County, NC
Our community would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support we have received. We are still in shock and coming to terms with the damage caused by Hurricane Helene to Canton, Clyde, Maggie Valley, Waynesville and Lake Junaluska. The scale of the flooding is beyond anything we have experienced before, and it will take more time to fully understand the scope of it.
We owe our thanks and gratitude to our first responders for your tireless efforts and to the selfless people who have done all they can to help their neighbors in need. We are a community that deeply cares about one another, and we are seeing that now as people go out of their way to check on each other, clear property and share resources.
As of Sept. 29, many roads in and around Haywood County are closed or impassable and travel to the area is not advised. The Blue Ridge Parkway and roads into Cataloochee Valley are closed. Much of the area is without power, Internet and cell service, and a boil water advisory is in place.
We ask for patience and understanding from all guests on this page. If you post a question here, it may not be responded to in a timely manner, if at all. Haywood County businesses are welcome to post important information about operations in the comments. Visit Haywood will continue to post updates here and the travel advisory page on our website, https://visitncsmokies.com/alerts (https://visitncsmokies.com/alerts).
