8. O remember
not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low.
9. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.
10. Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God? let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed.
11. Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve those that are appointed to die;
Psalm 79:8-11
This song speaks of the destruction of Jerusalem because of the idolatry of the people chosen by God. Being warned over and over.
As today all nations are warned that Christ is returning but few listen.
The psalmist asks that God forgive, for the sin had accumulated, and the punishment was laid on their offspring. And they were put into a condition where now they humbly repented.
Christ, for the glory of His name, has paid for every sin with His blood, providing atonement for believers.
Christ has gone father than just forgiveness and atonement. He has redeemed all who deserved death because of their sin. And given the gift of life eternal.
The ungodly who mock when God's people are afflicted to turn them back on the proper path will face judgment in place of rescue.
And daily, the prisoners of Satan who look to Christ are released. They are because of Christ's ministry given life in place of death, mercy in place of judgment. Amen.
