23. For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:24. And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat. this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.25. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as you drink it, in remembrance of me.26. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.1 Corinthians 11:23-26 Paul, in his letter, explains how to conduct the Lord's supper. Paul did not make it up but received instruction from Christ. Paul reminds everyone that He was betrayed by one of His very own. Christ gave thanks to His Father for everything. And this bread and cup are part of the Passover meal. The bread was without yeast, which is a picture of sin that takes time to work. The cup is the cup of redemption, the new covenant sealed in the blood of Christ. Paul used the terms bread and cup. It does not turn into Christ's body and blood it's just a reminder of what Christ did for us. The new covenant is the new birth, the new nature and relationship with God. Our sin because of Christ has been put out of sight out of remembrance. In taking the Lord's supper, we are preaching a sermon to God, to Satan, and to the world that Christ's death and His forgiveness has changed us. How many of us have taken the Lord's supper and then like the disciples the same night denied Him by their actions and words. I know I am guilty of this, Lord Jesus, forgive me please. Amen.
