13. Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
14. And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
15. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
16. And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of the house naked and wounded.
Acts 19:13-16
The benefit of knowing Christ is the authority He has given to His followers.
These men were Jews God's chosen. Their father the chief priest. But without Christ's authority they had no power in the spiritual realm.
These men imitated Paul, who cast out evil spirits who oppressed mankind.
But the spirit seeing they had no authority no covering from the Savior says Jesus I know, as the Son of God, and Messiah, who cast out many devils. And Paul, I know as a servant of the most high God, who has authority to cast me out. But who are you? You are not followers of Jesus. But children of the devil.
Then, the man in whom the spirit was leaped on them with great force overcoming them beating and wounding them, so they fled from house naked.
Christ is a place of refuge from evil. And there is nothing in the spiritual world that does not know Christ as Lord. And those who are evil can not prevail over evil. Amen.
