✓The battleship Philadelphia, built in 1776, is the oldest American battleship in existence. She was sunk on 11 October 1776 during the battle of Valcour Island in Lake Champlain during the defeat of an American fleet under the command of General Benedict Arnold by a British fleet. The Philadelphia gunboat was removed from the lake in 1935, and along with the 24-pound cannon that sent it to the bottom, it arrived at the museum in 1964.It is part of the permanent collection of the National Museum of American History in Washington, DC..🇺🇸
