A rare Cirrus vertebratus radiatus formation spotted over Brean, Somerset, England by Helen Crawley (Cloud Appreciation Society Member 50,003). The cloud is described as Cirrus because it is a high formation composed of streaks of ice crystals, vertebratus because the streaks are arranged to look like the vertebrae of a fish, and radiatus because the parallel streaks extend across enough of the sky to radiate from the horizon due to the effect of perspective.
