1. Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.
2. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.
3. Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation,
4. Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devised my hurt.
5. Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them.
Psalm 35:1-5
The psalmist has a good understanding of the Lord. Christ has defeated the adversary Satan. Safe are all who have Christ as Lord and Savior.
But miserable are all who fight against Him and His people. And none have ever prospered that oppose Him.
The shield and buckler are defensive weapons used in close combat. Christ has given us salvation as a shield.
The spear is an offensive weapon. Christ can not be defeated, and there has never been a weapon made by men that can do Him harm.
Say to my soul, I am your salvation. When the Spirit bears witnesse to you, that Christ is your salvation, you shall no longer doubt, your unbelief shall vanish, and you will be filled with unspeakable joy.
Christ has put to shame all His enemies, and the last enemy to be destroyed is death. There is no wisdom against the Lord.
The enemies of God shall flee like chaff in the wind, unable to do any damage. And the angel of the Lord shall chase them off. If you are not sure how much power the angel of the Lord has, in one night, he destroyed the first born of every animal and every man in Egypt. Amen.
