Roseberry Topping is a hill near the village of Great Ayton in North Yorkshire, England, which Jim Miller (Member 45,129) describes as his ‘local mini mountain’. While on a quest to see some seasonal bluebells, Jim spotted this Altocumulus lenticularis cloud. Lenticularis clouds form when moist air flows over raised ground. In stable atmospheric conditions, the air can take on a rising and dipping path downwind of the hill, with lenticularis clouds forming where the air cools most at the crests of the invisible flow. Jim described his sighting as ‘a little wave which capped Roseberry quite nicely’.
