TIPPAH COUNTY – In a jaw-dropping twist of events, the locally infamous “hawk tuah girl” has ruffled the feathers of a local Indian tribe.Chief Spitting Llama of The Chickasaw Congregate of Indians based out of Ripley, spoke out this morning on Tupelo’s Wizard 106.7 morning radio show about Ripley resident Hailey Wellington’s recent comment during an interview on a girls trip in Nashville, Tennessee. During this discussion, Chief Spitting Llama staked his and his tribe’s claim on the word “hawk tuah.”“Unbeknownst to many, hawk tuah actually means “Happy Thanksgiving, Inkana,” which translates to “Happy Thanksgiving, friend.” The word has been in a part of our Native American language and heritage for hundreds of years. To see a young lady use our word in this type of disgusting manner sickens us all. It is a disgrace. Our tribe refuses to idly stand by and watch her gain popularity and wealth while tarnishing our cherished holiday word and its true meaning,” explained Chief Spitting Llama.Wellington wasted no time reaching out to Chief Spitting Llama this afternoon to offer a heartfelt apology to him and the rest of the Chickasaw Congregate of Indians. “It really breaks my heart that I have upset the Chickasaw Congregate of Indians. I never meant to offend anyone while offering my wisdom to others when I said hawk tuah. I came up with the word sporadically. I didn’t even know it was an actual word,” said Wellington.After a brief meeting, the Native American Indian tribe accepted Wellington’s plea for forgiveness in exchange for an autographed group photo with the tribe, her participation in a rain dance to give Tippah County a break from the scorching summer temperatures, and her autograph on every tribe member’s leather moccasins. Wellington also happily accepted an offer from Chief Spitting Llama to host their annual July 4th summer retreat that will take place at Tippah Lake in Falkner.
