41. And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.
42. Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.
43. Many times did he deliver them, but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity.
44. Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:
45. And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.
Psalm 106:41-45
The psalmist goes over the times God's people strayed away from Him. It can be found in the book of Judges. Those who hated them ruled over them. And oppressed them. These people were descendants of those who came out of captivity from Egypt with their wealth.
It is a picture of us being caught up in sin. Nothing good will come of it. Some lived all their life slaves to sin. Being burdened with all the grief sin will cause.
Many times, God delivered them from their enemies. Many times, because of Christ, we were not consumed in our sins.
It says God remembered His covenant for them because they refused to live under its rule.
We, without Christ, would all face eternal destruction and hell fire.
But the mercy of God is shown in the Son of God, Jesus Christ. Amen.
