A colossal Egyptian statue being raised from the depths of Abu Qir Bay in Alexandria, Egypt. The statue once belonged to the submerged port city of Thonis-Heracleion.The statue depicts Hapy, god of the Nile floods. It once stood in front of the temple of Amun-Gereb in the ancient port city of Thonis-Heracleion, which was destroyed by a combination of devastating earthquakes, tsunamis and flooding and was thus submerged. The city lay undiscovered beneath the waves for over a thousand years.
