In 1947, the United States Army announced they’d recovered a ‘flying disc’ near the city of Roswell, New Mexico. Officials initially revealed that it was simply the wreckage of a crashed weather balloon. Or was it? The ‘Roswell incident’ captured the public’s imagination, with some suspecting that the US Army had actually captured a visitor from another world. To this day, Roswell pays host to an annual UFO festival every July. Grady Viramontes spotted what looks like an interstellar craft over New Mexico’s Organ Mountains. Looks like the first arrivals came in plenty of time for Roswell’s annual celebration of extraterrestrial life. Grady shared this close encounter with Marc Levesque (Member 44,655), who passed it on with Grady’s permission to the Cloud Appreciation Society. Though it looks like an alien mothership, this was actually an Altocumulus lenticularis duplicatus, formed as an airstream of alternating moister and drier air flowed up and over the mountain range. In other words, it was just a cloud… Or was it?
