1. These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.2. They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. 3. And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.4. But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these thingsI said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.6. But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?John 16:1-5 Christ has a concern for His disciples after He returns to the Father. And He tells them straight forward what they can expect. So when they experience it, they will not be discouraged. Christ tells them that they will put them out of the assembly as they did the blind man who received his sight. And that in killing them, they would believe they were doing God a favor. Like Saul, who persecuted Christ's followers. Christ reveals the truth of why because they do not really know the Father or His Son. Without accepting Christ as the Messiah, they have distanced themselves from knowing the Father. Now Christ explains why He did not mention this at the beginning because all the rage of the religious leaders was directed at Him. But now, in His absence, they will focus on the disciples and followers. We can take comfort in that though we can not see Christ in the flesh. He is always with us, by His promise. And His words in the Gospel are there to direct our actions. Christ said He will return, and He has said only truth. The wise will be prepared, but the fools will laugh and scoff. Amen.
