This elephant raised its trunk at Daniel Newton (Cloud Appreciation Society Member 48,134) as he flew over Thailand, from Bangkok to Surat Thani. We find that elephants are the most common animals to be spotted in clouds like these Cumulus congestus formations. Unfortunately, real elephants are far from common in the wild in Thailand. The current population is estimated at 1,000–3,000, down from around 100,000 in the 1800s.
