1. I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
John 15:1-5
Christ speaks these words to His disciples and to us. Christ is the Vine, and His Father is the vine dresser.
A vineyard needs constant attention, Christ is telling us we are under the Father's watchful eye.
The Father through different means removes the failing and sick branches from the vine, so as to protect the healthy ones from contamination.
Jesus tells us we are clean because we have not been removed from Him.
As long as we are in Christ, He is in us. Cut the branch from the vine, and it will produce nothing. Same with us. We will produce no spiritual fruit away from Christ.
Christ in John 15: says 7 times, "I am." The bread of life, the light of the world, the gate of the sheepfold, the good shepherd, the resurrection and the life, the way, the truth, and the life, the true vine.
The vine is supplying everything a disciple needs to produce spiritual fruit when walking with Christ. When you're walking with Christ, you are close to Him.
It is so dangerous to be out of touch for even a short time. For being away from the Shepherd, you are exposed to ravenous wolves. Satan, devils, and demons.
Amen.
