We are always seeking to be found, to be seen, to be recognised. It’s almost as if our existence depended on others confirming we actually exist. Some people argue, that if a tree were to fall over in the middle of nowhere, witnessed by nobody, would it even make a sound? Does sound exist in the absence of hearing ears? Does anything exist in the absence of observing eyes?Who or what are we, in the absence of being seen? or heard? or touched? or sensed? Isn’t the whole point of the human experience, to be witnessed in ways that we could never be witnessed in soul? I am only a mother because I have children that witness me as such and I was once a wife because a man chose to see me and treat me as one, but in the absence of their recognition of me as mother or wife, I would be neither. Would I even be a human being in the absence of all humans around me? 🤔 I suspect not…We make each other what we are, by being witnesses to each others existence. This is why the human connection is so intrinsically engraved in our consciousness, because it validates our very being.
