Like a bloom of jellyfish drifting on a gentle current, these Altocumulus virga breezed over Portland, Oregon, US, where they were spotted by John Gaines. The hanging cloud tentacles are known as virga, streaks of precipitation that dissipate in the drier air below, long before reaching the ground. Thankfully, virga don’t deliver a sting. These jellyfish of the sky will just drift silently on to make someone else’s day.
