16. For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and feet. 17. I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. 18. They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. 19. But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me.20. Deliver my soul from the sword, my darling from the power of the dog.Psalm 22:16-20 Christ here is represented, being at His trial and execution surrounded by wicked men who denied Him as the promised Messiah. They pierced His hands and feet on the cross. The psalmist writing a prophetic song of Christ, 1044 years before He came to earth. God knows the ending of a matter before the beginning. Displayed in the open for all to see His suffering for us, only someone filled with love would die in another's place. They gambled for His coat and divided His clothes among themselves. Christ as a man has God as His strength and is distressed for God had laid on Him all our sins and iniquities. Sparing not His only Son. The psalmist sees Christ looking for comfort, the wicked tongues sharp as swords in reproaching and blasphemies bearing false witness against Him. Christ giving His life willingly for no man could take His life without His consent. Christ seeking consolation from the Father calling Him my only one now alone bearing everything we deserve. This is to be remembered every day. There is no other who has opened the door to eternal life. But Christ the Savior the Son of the Living God. Amen.
