Tim’s thought for Saturday May 4, 2024…When we first bought our property we leased the pasture land back to the original owner for two or three years so his cows could stay on the land. There were cow trails all over the place! But, then he sold off that set of cows and the pasture land sat for a couple of years. All the trails disappeared. When we rebuilt the fencing and got cows of our own a couple of years ago, trails began to reappear……in all of the exact same places. My cows never met his cows; it happened organically. The kids and I experimented one afternoon by closing our eyes, relaxing our bodies, and walking forward allowing gravity and the shape of the land to dictate our direction. Amazingly enough, we all ended up on those trails without even trying. The new cows needed the same shade, the same food, and the same water as the old cows and, turns out, those old trails really were the best way to get all of those things.Growing up I remember how clearly I thought I could see the world. My mom and dad were great but times had changed, you know? I thought there was plenty of room for improvement. The older I’ve gotten, though, the more I’ve drifted back toward the trails Mom and Dad made that Mom and Dad didn’t actually make. See, the good trails that lead to Life have actually been around longer than any of us can take credit for. There’s not a better way; nothing needs to be reinvented. If you want the still water, the green pastures, and the cool shade, the places where real peace and contentment are actually found, you can waste all the time you want but you’re gonna end up having to use the same old trail the rest of us found those things on…Matthew 7:14 “Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life…”BorrowedTim Hall
