24. And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles, be fulfilled.
25. And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
26. Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
27. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
Luke 21:24-28
Christ is speaking of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans. This is happening because of the rejection of Christ, and His crucifixion of the Messiah.
And until the Gospel is preached all over the world, God's elect will be gathered out of all nations, and be converted, and return to their own land.
Christ speaks of signs in the sun and moon and stars. The sun, being the kingdom of David, the moon, is the law, the light of the sanhedrim darkened. The stars are the spiritual teachers who failed to recognize Christ as Messiah and Son of God.
Men's hearts will begin to fail them as they witness the changes that are coming to the world.
This is not Christ's return, in verse 27, but the evidence that He was here among us, in the dead were raised, blind received sight, lame walked, things no one had seen prior.
Christ's warning in verse 28, when they saw these things, they should have known their salvation was very close.
If you are of the few that are a witness to the power of Christ's salvation, by having a new heart and nature, seeking the Savior and His ways. You are blessed. Amen.
