#Repost Chelsea RainfordA fun little tidbit about old books is that many green ones are actually poisonous. The ingredients used in some green dyes from the Victorian era had high levels of arsenic. Here is my “poisonous” section in my library. The four on the right, parts of my Landscape Poets series I am sure have arsenic dyed cloth, because their publisher, Gall & Inglis, is on the database for poisonous books, for more than one book published around the same time as these. The one on the left I am guessing is poisonous, because of its age, colour, and the gilding. All of which are indicative of the book being bound in arsenic cloth.I only touch these books while wearing cotton gloves and I keep them in a bookcase that has glass doors. But I actually really like the poisonous book section in my library. 📗💚💀🪦
