The Dream Stele, also known as the Sphinx Stele or the Great Sphinx Stele, is an ancient Egyptian stele (a stone slab or pillar) located between the paws of the Great Sphinx of Giza. It was erected by Pharaoh Thutmose IV, who ruled during the 18th dynasty of ancient Egypt. The stele bears an inscription in which Thutmose IV recounts having a dream in which the Sphinx spoke to him. In the dream, the Sphinx promised Thutmose IV that if he cleared away the sand covering its body, he would become king of Egypt. As a result of this dream, Thutmose IV ordered the restoration of the Sphinx and claimed the throne of Egypt.
