Sailing stones, are a geological phenomenon where rocks move and inscribe long tracks along a smooth valley floor without human or animal intervention. This phenomenon occurs in several locations around the world, most notably the Racetrack Playa in Death Valley, California. The movement of the stones is typically attributed to a combination of wind, ice, and sometimes even a thin layer of water acting as a lubricant.
