23. Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,24. Strive to enter in at the straight gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.25. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:26. Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.27. But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.Luke 13:23-27 Here, Christ is asked if just a few would be saved. Christ began with a few followers, and daily more were added. And this person is asking if just these few would be saved. Christ, not answering his question, speaks to all the people listening. Saying (strive) to enter in at the narrow gate, this word in Greek means to struggle, to contend, to strive to obtain the reward. This means contending with every enemy of salvation, as sin, Satan, and worldly ways. Fight to win the incorruptible crown. For many will say they are following Christ, but not in faith, and many will be caught up in sin, having not overcome it, because they love sin more than Christ. These will try and enter, but the door has been closed. And they do not have the power to open it. They knock, saying Lord, open, but not having submitted to Christ, only looking for His benefits, He tells them the saddest words in the Bible, depart from Me I never knew you. Some of these will be preachers, Bible teachers, and churchgoers. People saying we follow Christ but continue in their sins. There is a time set for the end of all things, and today, now is the time to submit to Christ, follow in His steps, and you will share in the reward He prepared for the faithful. Amen.
