27. And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.
28. When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee torment me not.
29. (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)
30. And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.
31. And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.
Luke 8:27-31
Luke, the evangelist, collected the information for his gospel from eyewitness accounts and the gospel of Mark. He here states that Jesus meets a man possessed by spirits from Satan. Living homeless, and naked.
Upon seeing Jesus, he cries out being controlled by the spirits. Do not torment me, Son of the most high God.
Now take note the Scribes and Pharisees and Sadducees, the religious leaders of that time, could not recognize Christ as the Son of God.
But these spirits and Satan himself knew who Christ was and what power He possessed seeing He ejected them from the realm of heaven.
You can clearly see from the testimony that the man broke iron chains and bands but is fearful of Christ. The spirits are subdued and give their name, and beg not to be cast into the deep. This word translated from Greek is abyss, or bottomless pit, a place prepared for demons.
Now these beings were created before us.
Christ says in Luke 10:18, "I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven."
There is great evidence here, to believe Christ is the Son of God, Savior of mankind by His work on the cross, and powerful enough to cast demons out of men.
In Acts 19:13, men tried to cast out a demon in the name of Jesus, but not being believers they failed.
The word tells us now, is the acceptable time, not later, but now, we have no guarantee of another breath. Repent turn to Christ, He will not disappoint you. Amen.
