It Happened In The '50s!
Marilyn Monroe in a publicity photo for "Niagara" ~ 1953
Back in June of 1952 - a film crew and actress Marilyn Monroe appeared in Niagara Falls, Ontario to film the movie.
And while the movie features memorable spots in Canada --surrounding the falls. Michele Blackley communications manager with the Niagara Tourism & Convention Center on the U.S. side says they've created a special travel package that includes some of the best Niagara Falls attractions in the movie -- to mimic the nostalgia of the film.
"The characters participate in a wide variety of activities and a lot of those are still in existence today," said Blackely. "So from touring old Fort Niagara to fishing, to Maid of the Mist and Cave of the Winds, these are all attractions that they do in the movie."
The small Ontario town called Chippewa Falls along the Niagara River and the clock tower that chimes near the Falls were also featured in the movie.
Blackley says the 60th celebration travel package looks to brings back the heyday of that cinematic era.
"It's a way to recreate what they did in the movie, without all the darkness," said Blackley.
“One of the best aspects of watching Niagara is to witness the characters enthused about participating in the same activities that we still enjoy today,” said Director of Marketing & Communications Melissa Morinello. “From historically rich Old Fort Niagara to world class fishing, visitors can now recreate their own Niagara as people have done for generations.
