1. O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.2. Thou knowest my downsitting and my uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.3. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.4. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it all together.5. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.Psalm 139:1-5 The psalmist here expresses the all-knowing power of God. In everything persons and things created, nothing can be hidden. The psalmist takes this in regard to himself, but it surely applies to all of us. He describes his time of rest and his rising to the day before him. He is under God's watch and protection asleep or at work. Even his thoughts, God the Lord Christ, is mindful of what we think, even things we have long forgotten. Day and night, he is surrounded by Christ's presence, even when we entertain evil thoughts that turn into sin. Our words before they are formed are already known to Him, words in prayer, and words spoken in private to one another. Christ is in front, and behind, and all around, so there is nothing I can think, say, or do, all is known to Him. And in knowing all the psalmist has taught me, the hand of Christ is still there to preserve me, to protect and defend me. The psalmist states this knowledge and understanding of Christ and His love and care for us all, is to amazing to comprehend. We are coming to the conclusion of Holy Week, it is because of our sin Christ came, and He cares and loves us and wound have gone through the next three days even if it was just for me. Amen.
