15. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.16. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.17. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,18. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, and to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,19. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.Luke 4:15-19 Jesus has just returned from being tempted in the desert. Overcoming Satan with the word of God. He has come to His hometown, being recognized as a great teacher, and glorified because of the mighty works done by Him. This day He has been given the book of Isaiah, and He finds where we call 61:1. Christ, filled with the Holy Ghost, has been anointed to preach the Gospel. Meaning He was consecrated to His office as Messiah and furnished with powers necessary for the administration of it. A Messiah is someone who rescues or saves a group of people. Preaching eternal life to the spiritually poor doomed to destruction. To heal those whose hearts are broken before God because of sin. To free the captives of Satan. To give sight to the spiritually blind. To free those beaten down under the burden of sin. Christ's mission as it concludes this Holy Week, was to disclose the time when God sent His Son, to show goodwill to sinful men. To preach salvation to sinners. And that it was by Christ's own will He did this for us. He was not forced and we obtain it freely by His blood He shed. There is no other sacrifice acceptable. This is not religion, this a personal act done for the benefit of all who are on the road to destruction. Amen.
