28. Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29. Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
30. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31. Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
32. A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
Luke 2:28-32
The evangelist gives an account of Jesus fulfilling the law for a male child eight days old.
And Simeon, a devout and just man, was told by the Holy Ghost that he should not taste death till he had seen the Lord's Christ.
The Holy Ghost has summoned him to the temple, and this is where he takes Jesus in his arms and praises God.
He is ready to depart this world with joy after holding the infant in his own hands. Knowing He is the Son of the most High God.
And he is not going to his death screaming and kicking as some. But he is departing in peace as one who falls asleep.
For he had seen the Savior of the entire world.
Christ came to the Jew first, but Simeon has a more complete picture of Christ's work, that Christ was bringing light to the Gentiles who lived in the darkness of sin.
Now, Jesus has not changed, and He is still saving people every day. So our job is to take the message to the lost. I had a man tell me I was wasting my time talking about Jesus, but he came to my wedding and at dinner he told me he had accepted Jesus as Savior. Amen.
