8. Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
9. For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
10. Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;
11. Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:
12. Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.
Psalm 107:8-12
What a powerful lesson the psalmist sings. That men would give Christ glory for His goodness and His work of salvation.
There is none good but God. And only Christ can fill what the soul longs for. And only He can fill you with the Holy Ghost because it is impossible to live for Christ without His help.
There are many, this day who are walking in darkness in death's shadow, bound by the chains of sin.
Because all who rebelled against the Gospel message, who regard Christ's counsel with contempt, are without hope and doomed to destruction.
Here is the lesson. When they cried to the Lord, overwhelmed in their sin and trouble. Christ saved them!
He brought them out of darkness into His marvellous light. In His light, there is no shadow of death. And Christ by His blood has broken the chains of sin.
Praise His name for He is good and His mercy endures for ever. Amen.
