1. Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,2. Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;3. It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,4. That thou mightiest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.Luke 1:1-4 Luke, the evangelist, sets forth a declaration of his reasons for writing this Gospel and sending it to Theophilus. Who's title means lover of God. Luke was inspired by the Holy Ghost to write an accurate account of the things collected from messages preached by the Apostles and some things written that had deficiencies. These received from the twelve Apostles and the seventy disciples. Who handed down accounts of the birth, life, and death of Christ, the Son of God. Luke begins with the birth, ministry, baptism, and death of John the Baptist, cousin of Jesus. And continues with the conception, birth, private, and public life of Christ. This to Theophilus and to us also that the readers having instruction in Christ and His ministry would be more firmly established in the truth of the Gospel. To increase those seeking this knowledge, to strengthen their faith, and to give proof of such things, to preserve a belief in them, and to avoid any doubting or defections from the truth. Luke's Gospel is the longest and most detailed and we are blessed to have it available to us. It soul purpose is to bring us closer to Christ. Amen.
