7. All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt. 8. An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unti him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more. 9. Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.10. But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them.11. By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.Psalm 41:7-11 Here, the psalmist speaks prophetically about Christ, all those He came to redeem, turned their back on Him, and plotted His death. This evil disease, is their wicked charge of sin, which would stick to Him, and the scandal of His death, being hanged on a tree, they tried to defame the Son of the living God. And with Christ's death, they were sure He was finished unable to rise from death. Here we have a word about Judas, chosen by Christ, His betrayer. If you can give thought to Christ as Creator, forming the tree He was murdered on, and forming the traitor which Christ supported and gave the purse, which was used to purchase necessities and aid the poor. Christ goes to His Father, asking mercy to fulfill the task set before Him, and raise Him up from the death that His enemies thought was permanent. That He could requite them, this word is out dated, it's meaning, to pay up, or set free. The mission of Christ was to pay our debt to sin, and set us free from the destruction of Satan. And Christ knowing the Father, the two being one, knew God's favor because Satan and all Christ's enemies could not gain a victory over our Saviour. Amen.
