WHO IS GOD IN OUR THINKING?
When we contemplate the greatness of God revealed in His attributes, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by His absolute perfection. However, the revelation of God in the Bible is not meant to overwhelm us but to lead us to a deeper understanding of His benevolent nature. If God is infinitely holy, He is also infinitely merciful, offering His forgiveness to repentant sinners. If his knowledge surpasses all human understanding, he desires to make us know the truths that lead us to salvation.
The dominant image used to describe God is that of a loving Father, though He is the Creator and we are His creatures. Jesus revealed the tenderness of God's heart for us as beloved children. It is the sense of intimacy and communion that God seeks to establish with us. Though His greatness defies our understanding, His goodness surpasses our imagination. When we turn to Him in humility and trust, we experience His mercy, grace, and unconditional love.
This relational view of God encourages us to develop personal connections with Him through prayer, reading His Word, and obeying His will. He then becomes not only the object of our worship but also our comforter, our guide and our strength. We discover that behind the clouds of divine majesty lies a Father who walks with us, comforts us in trial and assures us of His constant help.
Discovering and knowing a God as great in His nature and as deep in His love can only evoke in us adoration, gratitude, and a desire to serve. His perfection drives us to holiness while His mercy strengthens us in the face of failures. Contemplation for God then becomes a constant source of spiritual edification, gradually leading us to an ever deeper maturity in our relationship with Him.
For it is in the personal encounter with the living God that lies the true meaning of our existence. This is where we discover our identity, value and mission. In Him we find the peace, joy and strength we need to face the trials of life. Walking alongside Him and abandoning ourselves into His loving hands, we are assured of a glorious future, whatever the current upheaval.
Contemplation of God also prompts us to share His good news with those who still ignore it. Jesus shows us the enthusiasm with which God welcomes the sinner back to him. So great is his compassion that he wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. He desires to make us artisans of His work of salvation in this end times.
May our hearts embrace with a burning zeal for God and intense love for souls. May our faith in a God so great in His nature and so good in His purposes push us to carry to others the Good News of His grace; until Jesus returns to delight us at meeting Him and take us to our heavenly home, where we will we will finally be able to behold face to face, beyond the earthly shadows, the blinding glow of his infinite glory... To God be the glory!
