1. I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.2. O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.3. O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. 4. Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give. thanks at the remembranceof his holiness.5. For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.Psalm 30:1-5 The psalmist teaches a valuable lesson in this song. The psalmist extols the name of the Lord, lifting it up very high, He is the most High God, and there is none like Him, nor can there be anyone higher. His praise to the Lord, that he has been raised up from the oppression of sin. And the Lord has not let Satan rule over him. He cried to the Lord who alone could help, and Christ healed his soul. Christ his protection did not allow him to be consumed in his transgression, but kept him alive, so he did not descend into the pit, meaning a prison or dungeon, a place where sin holds you captive till it destroys you. This could be the grave or hell. Now he sings to the Lord this song, being pardoned, forgiven, and restored the holiness in Christ's covering that sin had disturb. Now none could withstand the anger of God when He hides His face and afflicts men for their sin. But there is life in the Son, Christ taking all our punishment and giving live eternal in its place. So the darkness of sin, having no power, being defeated by Christ. Christ restored the light of salvation, and its perfection shall be revealed on the resurrection morning when the dead in Christ rise to meet Him. Oh what a day that shall be! Amen.
